This checks whether the listing states the facts that commonly change an employment decision. It measures disclosure completeness, not whether the opportunity is good or bad.
Facts already stated
- Compensation
- Work arrangement
- Location eligibility

- Application closing time: Is there a firm application deadline, a rolling review window or no stated closing date?
Unknown information is never converted into a negative score. The questions above exist to prevent missing evidence from being mistaken for a favorable term.
Decision levers
What could make or break the fit?
Reasons to look closer
- Pay compares strongly with similar current roles: The annualized midpoint is around the 90th percentile among 382 comparable USD salary observations.
Trade-offs to weigh
- Location rules could change the fit: Geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region.
Questions worth asking before you invest more time
- Confirm whether a degree is actually required, preferred, or replaceable with equivalent experience.
- Confirm the actual minimum experience requirement rather than assuming preferred background is mandatory.
- Ask whether visa sponsorship is available before investing significant time in the application.
These questions come from details the listing leaves open. An unanswered point is not treated as a disadvantage.

Role market context
How much current choice is visible around this kind of work?
This compares the vacancy with current High Paid Job inventory in the broad Executive leadership roles family. It describes visible choice and disclosure, not future demand or career quality.
200 most recent current roles sampled for the disclosure measures below.
Distinct employers in the bounded current sample, not an estimate of all employers hiring in the market.
Current sampled roles stating at least four of the five Core Decision Facts.
Requires a numeric amount, explicit ISO currency and supported pay period.
Listings with explicit enough remote, hybrid or on-site evidence to classify.
Missing deadline evidence remains unknown and is not interpreted as an open-ended application window.
Currencies with explicit pay evidence in the sample: USD (77) · CAD (3) · GBP (2). Raw amounts across different currencies are not compared.
This describes current visible High Paid Job inventory in the same broad occupation family. Percentages use a bounded recent sample and are not a forecast, a complete labor-market census or an employer-quality measure.
Constraint opportunity lab
What changes the size of the current opportunity pool?
Each line applies one stricter evidence-based constraint to the same bounded current role-family sample. It helps you see the trade-off in visible choice without deciding which trade-off is right for you.
Counts only affirmative or possible sponsorship evidence, or relocation explicitly offered. Unknown is not treated as no.
Only same-currency opportunities with usable annualized pay enter this comparison. Other currencies are not converted or treated as lower.
A much stricter subset: only listings with explicit worldwide-remote evidence remain.
Shows the subset with enough stated evidence for a more informed first comparison.
Counts roles explicitly classified as worldwide remote, region-restricted remote or remote with restrictions still unclear.
Requires amount, explicit ISO currency and a supported pay period. Missing pay evidence remains unknown.
Uses only roles where a country is known. Roles without country evidence are excluded from this denominator.
Uses only roles with a stated employment type.
These are counterfactual filters over a bounded sample of current HPJ inventory in the same broad occupation family. They show how visible choice changes when one evidence-based constraint is applied; they do not tell you which constraint you should choose or predict hiring outcomes. The calculation uses the 200 most recent current roles from 1632 visible roles in this broad family.
Salary transparency context
Is pay disclosure typical for this kind of role?
This listing states usable structured compensation. About 41% of the bounded current role sample does the same.
Compensation counts only when amount, ISO currency and supported pay period are all known.
Pay disclosure is limited in the current role sample.
This employer’s current visible listings disclose pay materially more often than the current same-role sample.
This compares salary-disclosure behavior in current visible listings. It does not compare raw salary amounts across currencies, infer undisclosed pay as zero, or rate employer quality.

Decision analysis
What the listing really tells you
Vice President, Engineering at Submittable becomes easier to judge once compensation has enough depth for comparison, the location rules are clear enough to judge, and the application route gives a few useful clues are viewed together. Here is the current read from the information available.
Compensation has enough depth for comparison
Among 382 current comparable salaries in USD, the normalized annual midpoint is around the 90th percentile. This compares advertised pay in the same currency and does not include every element of total compensation.
The location rules are clear enough to judge
Location flexibility can be assessed here: Limited location freedom, with a Remote Freedom reading of 51/100. The most important location constraint is geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region..
The application route gives a few useful clues
Provider-mediated application path · 1 visible process step. The external application may contain additional steps that are not visible from the listing itself.
Source continuity adds useful context
The opportunity currently has 1 renewable source path across 1 source classes. Multiple independent paths can strengthen continuity, but they are not a substitute for checking the application destination.
How this analysis is assembled
This read combines the structured details currently available for pay, flexibility, qualifications, mobility, application effort and source continuity. Missing facts are left open for you to verify.
Analysis evidence coverage
How much analysis can the current evidence support?
Uses the explainable High Pay Score within the job’s current occupation/seniority/currency comparison sample.
Measures observable location flexibility and explicit restrictions; it does not determine whether remote work is personally desirable.
The configured source supplied structured salary fields, a usable currency and a focused comparison value.
The listing was posted about 1 days ago.
At least one enabled source recently observed the vacancy. The source chain is traceable, but this is not independent employer verification.
There is no universal opportunity score because pay, flexibility and access matter differently to different people. Compare Jobs lets you weight the evidence around your own priorities.
Decision checklist
What is supported, uncertain or worth checking?
This checklist separates supported strengths, visible cautions and missing evidence. It is not an overall recommendation or guarantee that the job is suitable for you.
Supported strengths
- Advertised pay is above much of the current comparable disclosed-salary sample.
Visible cautions
- Geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region.
- Applicant residence or location appears to be restricted.
- This is remote work with a geographic restriction, not a worldwide-remote vacancy.
Still unknown
- Visa sponsorship is not established by the available listing data.
Pay vs. barriers
Strong pay with stated barriers to weigh
Pay compares strongly, but qualification or location constraints are also visible. Higher pay does not erase those practical requirements.
Comparable disclosed-pay evidence places this job at about 90 / 100 within its current occupation/seniority sample.
2 explicit Remote Freedom restriction signals are present and are shown separately from qualification requirements.
- Education requirement is not established.
- Required prior-experience level is not established.
This section weighs pay context against clearly stated barriers without collapsing unlike requirements into one universal score. Degree, experience, licensing, clearance and location limits remain separate, and missing qualification details stay unknown.
Beyond the headline
Not enough evidence for a hidden-value finding
Potential hidden value appears only when several distinct non-pay advantages are actually supported. Missing requirements or benefits are never counted as positives.
The annualized salary midpoint is at or above about 90% of the current comparable disclosed-salary sample.
Still check: The current application path is provider-mediated rather than directly classified as an employer-authorized or official route.
Hidden Value is an experimental evidence summary, not an investment-style score or guarantee of employability. It only uses explicit current listing evidence and does not infer that an unmentioned qualification is unnecessary.
Explainable opportunity highlight

There are not yet five current disclosed salaries in one currency, so an employer pay median would be too thin to be useful.
Questions worth asking this employer
- If work authorization matters to you, what sponsorship policy applies to this specific role and location?
- If a move is required, is relocation assistance available for this position?
- What is the expected application and interview timeline if the listing does not state a closing date?
These questions are prompted by missing or thin evidence in the employer’s current visible vacancies. Missing evidence is not treated as a negative judgement.
This employer snapshot uses the employer’s current visible listings. Remote and sponsorship rates use only vacancies with explicit evidence, while missing information stays unknown. Salary medians are shown separately by currency and need at least five disclosed salaries. Zero confirmed sponsorship means none was explicitly found in this sample, not that sponsorship is unavailable.
This snapshot describes the employer’s current visible vacancies—things such as pay disclosure and work arrangement. It is not an employee-satisfaction or hiring-quality rating, and different currencies stay separate.
Work-location intelligence
Remote Freedom
Limited location freedom
Why this score?
- The role is remote but the source identifies a country or regional restriction.
Location restrictions detected
- Geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region.
- Applicant residence or location appears to be restricted.
Flexibility signals detected
- The description indicates scheduling flexibility that can support location independence.
Remote Freedom measures observable location flexibility only. Unknown work-location information remains unscored. Timezone wording is penalized only when it appears restrictive; general collaboration across time zones is not treated as a restriction. A score does not guarantee legal work eligibility, payroll availability or visa sponsorship.

What’s the catch?
These are visible conditions worth checking before treating the headline compensation as the whole story:
- This is remote work with a geographic restriction, not a worldwide-remote vacancy.
Current alternatives
Better-paying alternatives
These current roles show a materially higher annualized salary midpoint in the same broad occupation and currency. Similar seniority, country, work arrangement, employment type and recency are preferred where possible; higher pay alone does not make an alternative a better fit.

Before you share money or sensitive information
- Confirm the vacancy on the employer’s official careers site when practical, especially if a recruiter contacts you outside the listed application path.

- Treat unusually fast offers or interviews conducted only through informal messaging channels as reasons to verify the employer independently.
This is a limited safety screen, not employer verification and not a fraud determination. Never send money, cryptocurrency, passwords or sensitive banking credentials merely because a listing appears on a job platform.

At Submittable, technology and purpose converge, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful change.
About the Role
Submittable is hiring a Vice President of Engineering who is deeply technical, works hands-on, and builds with AI every day. You will report to the CTO and run engineering day to day: delivery, quality, reliability, cost, and the people who make them happen.
We want a different VP than the old SaaS playbook produced. That playbook grew output by growing headcount and adding layers of management. We believe AI coding tools now let a small team of strong engineers ship what once took a team several times its size. We intend to run engineering that way. You will keep the organization lean, keep layers few, and raise output per engineer rather than the number of engineers.
You cannot lead that change from a slide deck. You need to know firsthand what it is like to ship production software with AI agents, including where they fail. We expect you to have done this yourself in the last 12 months and to keep doing it here. Plan on roughly a fifth of your week going to hands-on technical work: reading and writing code, reviewing pull requests, working incidents, and building the tools your teams use.
We are choosing depth over span. This is a hands-on leadership role for a small, senior team, not a role leading a large organization through layers of managers. If you want to make architecture calls, contribute and ship code, and help a lean team deliver well beyond its size, we want to talk.
What You'll Do
- Run engineering day to day. Turn the CTO's technical strategy and the product roadmap into plans, priorities, and shipped software.
- Stay hands-on. Review pull requests, prototype, debug production issues, and write tools. You should be able to pick up a ticket and ship it. Teams should trust your calls because of your technical judgment, not your title.
- Make AI the default way we build. Expect every engineer to work with AI coding agents (tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot) for design, coding, testing, and review. Show people how by doing it yourself, and remove whatever stops them.
- Measure what AI changes. Track the four DORA metrics (how often we deploy, how long a change takes to reach production, how often changes fail, and how fast we recover), plus defects that reach customers and engineering cost per release. Report plainly on where AI helps and where it creates new problems, such as oversized pull requests, thinner review, or code no one on the team understands.
- Keep the organization lean. Grow output faster than headcount. Keep management layers thin, expect managers to stay technical, and favor small teams with clear ownership over large teams that need heavy coordination. Before adding a person, ask whether better tooling or automation solves the problem.
- Automate the toil. Use AI and automation for test generation, CI/CD checks, code review assistance, release notes, incident triage, and alerting, so engineers spend their time on the product.
- Raise the technical bar. Set standards for architecture, code review, testing, CI/CD, release management, and incident response. Shipping more code, faster, raises the stakes for review, testing, and observability. Make sure speed does not cost us quality.
- Own platform reliability, security, and cost. Our products are multi-tenant SaaS running on AWS and Azure, with Kubernetes. Work with infrastructure and security partners to meet uptime targets, pass SOC 2 audits, and keep cloud spend growing slower than revenue. Simplify our architecture where consolidation pays for itself.
- Build AI into the product. Work with the CTO and Product to add AI to Submittable so customers can set up programs, review applications, and make funding decisions in less time. Help decide what to build and how to test it for accuracy and fairness, because real applicants' outcomes depend on it.
- Hire and grow a small, strong team. Recruit engineers and leaders who already build with AI. Coach managers to stay close to the work. Build career paths that reward impact and technical depth, not team size.
- Partner across the company. Work with Product and Design on scope and trade-offs among new features, technical debt, and platform health. Work with Customer Experience and Support to resolve escalations and reduce customer-facing defects.
What We're Looking For
- You have shipped software with AI in the last 12 months. You personally built and shipped production code using AI coding tools within the past year. You can tell us what you built, which tools you used, what broke, and how it changed the way you work. This is a requirement, not a preference.
- Deep technical skill. 15+ years in software engineering, with real depth in distributed systems, API design, data modeling, cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure, Kubernetes), and DevOps. You can hold your own in an architecture review with our strongest engineers and spot the flaw in a design or a pull request.
- You have run lean, high-output teams. 7+ years in engineering leadership, including at least 3 years leading other managers. You have raised a team's output without matching growth in headcount, and you can show the numbers: delivery metrics, team size, and cost, before and after.
- B2B SaaS at scale. Experience building and running multi-tenant, cloud-based B2B SaaS products. Experience consolidating platforms or integrating acquired products is a plus.
- Predictable delivery. A record of shipping complex software on predictable timelines without trading away quality, security, or reliability.
- Distributed teams. You have led teams across multiple countries and time zones, including offshore or nearshore partners. You write clearly, because much of this work happens in writing.
- Comfort with fast change. The norms for building software now shift every few months. You form a view, test it, and change your mind when the evidence says so.
- A clear storyteller. You can explain technical trade-offs to executives and non-technical colleagues in plain language. You tell people where engineering is going and why, often enough that they repeat it.
- A builder of strong teams. A track record of hiring, developing, and keeping strong engineers and building inclusive teams.
- Nice to Have: Experience in a private equity-backed or high-growth SaaS company; familiarity with SOC 2 and GDPR; experience shipping LLM-based features to customers, including how to evaluate them.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
