Fast read

Opportunity DNA

This opportunity needs a closer read before drawing a strong conclusion, especially around the salary benchmark is still shallow.

PayRange available

The range is usable, but the comparable sample is still too shallow for a strong relative-pay call.

FlexibilityLocation limits visible

Geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region.

Entry pathMixed requirements

Some access and qualification signals are clear, but the overall entry path is neither unusually open nor unusually restrictive.

MobilityNot established

Sponsorship and relocation support are not clear from the current listing.

ApplicationSome process detail

Part of the application route can be assessed, but the full external process may contain additional steps.

TraceabilityCurrent source traceable

At least one recent enabled source can still renew this vacancy.

This fingerprint summarizes what is clear, constrained or still unanswered in the current listing. It is a reading aid, not an overall job score.

Decision evidence check

4 of 5 core facts stated

This checks whether the listing states the facts that commonly change an employment decision. It measures disclosure completeness, not whether the opportunity is good or bad.

Facts already stated

  • Compensation
  • Work arrangement
  • Advertised location
  • Employment type

What to verify next

  • Application closing time: Is there a firm application deadline, a rolling review window or no stated closing date?

Advertised location is not proof of work authorization, sponsorship, or legal eligibility. Unknown information is not a negative score; verify those questions separately.

Decision levers

What could make or break the fit?

Reasons to look closer

Nothing stands out strongly enough yet to call a clear advantage. The role may still be attractive for reasons the listing does not spell out.

Trade-offs to weigh

  • The salary benchmark is still shallow: Pay is disclosed, but the current comparison pool is too small for a strong relative-pay conclusion.
  • Location rules could change the fit: Geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region.

Questions worth asking before you invest more time

  • Confirm whether a degree is actually required, preferred, or replaceable with equivalent experience.
  • Confirm the actual minimum experience requirement rather than assuming preferred background is mandatory.
  • Ask whether visa sponsorship is available before investing significant time in the application.

These questions come from details the listing leaves open. An unanswered point is not treated as a disadvantage.

Salary transparency context

Is pay disclosure typical for this kind of role?

This listing states usable structured compensation, but the current role sample is still too small for a reliable disclosure-rate comparison.

This listingUsable pay stated

Compensation counts only when amount, ISO currency and supported pay period are all known.

Current same-role sampleInsufficient evidence

At least ten current comparable roles are required before HPJ publishes a disclosure percentage.

Current employer pattern85%

Employer-level comparison is withheld until enough current employer listings are available.

This compares salary-disclosure behavior in current visible listings. It does not compare raw salary amounts across currencies, infer undisclosed pay as zero, or rate employer quality.

Decision analysis

What the listing really tells you

Rich decision context

The headline alone does not tell the whole story for Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) C-UAS at Defense Unicorns. The clearest decision context comes from pay is visible, but the benchmark is still thin, the location rules are clear enough to judge, and the listing gives useful clues about who can realistically enter.

Pay is visible, but the benchmark is still thin

A usable USD salary is available, but there are not enough comparable current observations for a strong percentile statement yet.

The location rules are clear enough to judge

Location flexibility can be assessed here: Remote with some uncertainty or restrictions, with a Remote Freedom reading of 62/100. The most important location constraint is geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region..

The listing gives useful clues about who can realistically enter

1 additional stated barrier. Only requirements actually stated in the listing are counted; anything left unsaid remains unresolved.

The application route gives a few useful clues

Provider-mediated application path. The external application may contain additional steps that are not visible from the listing itself.

Source continuity adds useful context

The opportunity currently has 1 renewable source path across 1 source classes. Multiple independent paths can strengthen continuity, but they are not a substitute for checking the application destination.

How this analysis is assembled

Listing freshnessPosted today

The source posting date is today.

Source provenance evidenceEstablished source evidence

At least one enabled source recently observed the vacancy. The source chain is traceable, but this is not independent employer verification.

There is no universal opportunity score because pay, flexibility and access matter differently to different people. Compare Jobs lets you weight the evidence around your own priorities.

Decision checklist

What is supported, uncertain or worth checking?

This checklist separates supported strengths, visible cautions and missing evidence. It is not an overall recommendation or guarantee that the job is suitable for you.

Supported strengths

No standout strength is supported strongly enough to list here. That is not a negative rating.

Visible cautions

  • Geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region.
  • A security-clearance requirement may substantially narrow eligibility.
  • This is remote work with a geographic restriction, not a worldwide-remote vacancy.
  • Security-clearance barrier stated

Still unknown

  • There is not enough comparable salary evidence to establish this job’s current pay position.
  • Visa sponsorship is not established by the available listing data.

Qualifications & access

What qualifications are explicitly stated?

Some explicit entry barriers stated

EducationEducation requirement not established
Required experience evidenceExperience requirement not established
Explicit required barriers1
Explicit access signals0

Explicit requirements worth checking

  • Security-clearance barrier stated: The listing contains an explicit security-clearance requirement or eligibility condition that can materially restrict access.

Qualification signals come from explicit listing wording. Anything not mentioned remains unknown, so silence is never treated as proof that a degree, experience, licence or other requirement is unnecessary.

Pay vs. barriers

Opportunity Efficiency not assessed

The current pay position is not reliable enough to weigh compensation against the stated barriers.

Explicit stated barriers

1 explicit required barrier is visible in the available wording.

Location-freedom constraints

1 explicit Remote Freedom restriction signal is present and is shown separately from qualification requirements.

Evidence gaps that could change this interpretation
  • Current comparable pay position is unavailable.
  • Education requirement is not established.
  • Required prior-experience level is not established.

This section weighs pay context against clearly stated barriers without collapsing unlike requirements into one universal score. Degree, experience, licensing, clearance and location limits remain separate, and missing qualification details stay unknown.

Beyond the headline

Not enough evidence for a hidden-value finding

Potential hidden value appears only when several distinct non-pay advantages are actually supported. Missing requirements or benefits are never counted as positives.

Still check: Security-clearance barrier stated · The current application path is provider-mediated rather than directly classified as an employer-authorized or official route.

Hidden Value is an experimental evidence summary, not an investment-style score or guarantee of employability. It only uses explicit current listing evidence and does not infer that an unmentioned qualification is unnecessary.

Questions worth asking this employer

  • If work authorization matters to you, what sponsorship policy applies to this specific role and location?
  • If a move is required, is relocation assistance available for this position?
  • What is the expected application and interview timeline if the listing does not state a closing date?

These questions are prompted by missing or thin evidence in the employer’s current visible vacancies. Missing evidence is not treated as a negative judgement.

This employer snapshot uses the employer’s current visible listings. Remote and sponsorship rates use only vacancies with explicit evidence, while missing information stays unknown. Salary medians are shown separately by currency and need at least five disclosed salaries. Zero confirmed sponsorship means none was explicitly found in this sample, not that sponsorship is unavailable.

Work-location intelligence

Remote Freedom

62/100

Remote with some uncertainty or restrictions

62%

Why this score?

  • The role is remote but the source identifies a country or regional restriction.

Location restrictions detected

  • Geographic eligibility is restricted to a country or region.

Remote Freedom measures observable location flexibility only. Unknown work-location information remains unscored. Timezone wording is penalized only when it appears restrictive; general collaboration across time zones is not treated as a restriction. A score does not guarantee legal work eligibility, payroll availability or visa sponsorship.

International applicant intelligence

Visa & relocation signals

Sponsorship status is shown only when the listing provides clear enough wording. Employer history or headquarters location is not used to guess an answer.

Visa sponsorshipSponsorship not established

RelocationRelocation support not established

The available listing details do not contain a clear enough relocation statement.

Tradeoff check

What’s the catch?

These are visible conditions worth checking before treating the headline compensation as the whole story:

  • A security-clearance requirement may substantially narrow eligibility.
  • This is remote work with a geographic restriction, not a worldwide-remote vacancy.

Application-path intelligence

What can we see about the application process?

Provider-mediated application path

The current application path comes through a publisher or aggregator. The destination may still lead to an employer-authorized hiring system, but that is not clear enough to assume.

Current destination: jobicy.com · HTTPS

No additional required application step is clear in the available listing text. This does not mean the external application is one-click or friction-free.

Application effort is estimated from visible listing and source details. Optional steps are kept separate from mandatory ones, and the external form may contain additional requirements that are not visible here.

Application safety context

Application safety check

Basic application-safety context available

The current application destination has a basic transport-safety signal such as HTTPS. This does not verify the employer, vacancy, recruiter or application process.

Evidence checked: Source provenance · Application destination · Listing wording

Observable transport-safety signals

  • The available application destination uses HTTPS.
Before you share money or sensitive information
  • Confirm the vacancy on the employer’s official careers site when practical, especially if a recruiter contacts you outside the listed application path.
  • Check that recruiter email domains and application destinations are consistent with the employer or an identifiable recruiting provider.
  • Do not pay application, processing, training or equipment fees merely to be considered for a job.
  • Do not send cryptocurrency, gift cards, online-banking credentials or PINs as part of an application.
  • Treat unusually fast offers or interviews conducted only through informal messaging channels as reasons to verify the employer independently.

This is a limited safety screen, not employer verification and not a fraud determination. Never send money, cryptocurrency, passwords or sensitive banking credentials merely because a listing appears on a job platform.

Original listing details

The section below comes from the listing source. The decision sections above use the job’s structured pay, location, qualification, mobility and application details to give you additional context.

EMPLOYER IS A CONTRACTOR FOR THE U.S. GOVERNMENT. THIS POSITION REQUIRES U.S. CITIZENSHIP.

Role Description

This is a forward-deployed engineering role. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with mission heroes- the users, operators, and program engineers who run real workloads in real DoD environments- and lead the software integration of modular Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) sensors and effectors. You will deploy, harden, integrate, and operate our modular C-UAS solution.

Forward-deployed means aligned with the mission hero, not always on a plane. Most of the work is remote. You'll travel to sites when the engagement genuinely calls for it — initial standup, in-SCIF integration work, on-the-ground incident response, training, and knowledge transfer- and you'll be on a video call or in a shared chat with that same mission hero the rest of the time. The job is being their engineer, not living at their desk.

You are a cross-functional engineering leader. You can take responsibility for the full breadth of a data and software integration platform- make it work where it has to work, analyze what's running through it, and solve problems in real time for the mission hero. About 20% of your time, you'll also help make Defense Unicorns' forward-deployed team better — pairing with junior Data Engineer FDEs on hard problems, helping them develop technical judgment, and raising the ceiling on what the team can take on.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and harden UDS Data Capability in the mission hero's environment — stand up UDS Store (Iceberg, Rook/Ceph, pgvector, Postgres), wire up UDS Transit for air-gap data movement, configure UDS Govern policies (Pepr/Lula), and integrate UDS Connect (Strimzi/Kafka) where streaming or legacy connectors are required.

  • Own integration with existing mission systems — connect UDS Data Capability to existing infrastructure, including sensor arrays, computer-vision-enabled UAS interceptors, and a broad range of C-UAS solutions.

  • Build pipelines that move data through classification boundaries — ingestion, transformation, catalog registration, model/dataset packaging via Zarf, cross-domain transit, and eventual consistency across DDIL conditions.

  • Operate what you deploy — own initial day-2 operations, including capacity, performance, backup/restore (Velero), observability (Vector/Loki), incident response, and upgrade paths. Transition ownership to the mission hero's operations team once stable.

  • Generate accreditation artifacts — STIG evidence, cATO documentation, FIPS validation notes, and policy mappings to support ISSM/ISSO requirements in IL4/IL5 environments.

  • Represent the mission hero to product and engineering — document issues, write postmortems, recommend operator improvements, and communicate field challenges to the platform engineering team.

  • Train and transfer knowledge — develop runbooks, architecture documentation, working sessions, and knowledge-transfer materials that enable mission teams to operate independently.

  • Mentor junior Data Engineer FDEs — pair on complex problems, review integration designs, and help engineers develop technical judgment without direct people-management responsibilities.

Clearance & Travel

  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI required.

  • Travel: Approximately 10%–25%, based on mission and customer requirements.

  • On-site expectations: Ability to work in SCIFs and other restricted environments for days or weeks when required for integration, incident response, training, or knowledge transfer. Most work is performed remotely.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working in tactical edge and interoperable mission environments, including TAK Server administration, ATAK/WinTAK, tactical communications, and disconnected or air-gapped systems.
  • Production experience with modern data platforms, including lakehouse technologies (Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or Hudi), object storage (Ceph or S3-compatible), PostgreSQL, and analytical query engines such as Trino, DuckDB, ClickHouse, or Spark SQL.
  • Experience with streaming and data integration technologies, including Kafka or equivalent messaging platforms, stream processing, change data capture (CDC), and integration of legacy systems into modern data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience building, scheduling, monitoring, troubleshooting, and recovering production data pipelines using Airflow, Dagster, Argo Workflows, or comparable orchestration tools.
  • Working knowledge of data governance, cataloging, access control, and auditability, including REST catalogs, ABAC/RBAC, OIDC/OAuth, and data lineage.
  • Strong SQL proficiency and experience designing data models and schemas for analytical and operational workloads.
  • Hands-on production Kubernetes experience, including deployments, operators, CRDs, storage classes, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong Linux, containerization, networking, TLS, and secrets-management fundamentals.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar) and GitOps deployment practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex software and data integrations across multiple systems in secure, disconnected, or mission-constrained environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with mission operators, program engineers, and technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt to changing mission requirements, and deliver practical solutions in environments where established documentation or processes may not exist.
  • Experience mentoring engineers through technical problem-solving, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience administering TAK Server and supporting ATAK/WinTAK integrations in operational environments.
  • Experience with Link 16/TADL-J network operations and message-level analysis.
  • Familiarity with NIPR/SIPR environments, SATCOM, multi-band radios, and tactical communications interoperability.
  • Direct experience integrating C-UAS sensors, effectors, computer-vision-enabled interceptors, or other autonomous and unmanned systems.
  • Experience with Strimzi-managed Kafka on Kubernetes, Flink, Debezium, or similar streaming and CDC technologies.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL extensions such as pgvector and open-source catalog technologies including Iceberg REST, Polaris, Gravitino, or Nessie.
  • Familiarity with the CNCF ecosystem and open-source infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience deploying or supporting software in DoD IL4/IL5 environments, including STIG compliance, cATO processes, FIPS requirements, and accreditation documentation.
  • Experience with air-gapped software delivery, Zarf packaging, cross-domain data movement, or DDIL operating conditions.
  • Experience supporting operational DoD users through field integration, incident response, training, and knowledge transfer.

The listed responsibilities are not exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the evolving needs of the organization. We are seeking a dynamic individual who is able to adapt and take on new responsibilities as they arise.

Full compensation packages are based on candidate experience. Compensation ranges are established using national benchmarking data and apply across all geographic locations within the United States.
