The Benefits of Failure

A failure establishes only this, that our determination to succeed was not strong enough. Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, “Failure is not an option. Everyone has to succeed.” But what if you do fail? If you do fail, do not despair. Do you know that failure can be beneficial to you? Failure is nature’s plan to prepare you for great responsibilities.

The two benefits of failure:
(1) If you do fail, you learn what doesn’t work;
(2) The failure gives you the opportunity to try a new approach.

Learning from success is important but learning from failure is vital to succeeding. A good loser learns how to win. Your success depends much on your earlier failures to succeed. To be successful, you should be very quick to learn and correct your mistakes so that you will never repeat the same mistake again. Failure is instructive. Failure is the tuition you pay for success. You always pass failure on your way to success. Successful people learn quite as much from their failures as from their successes. When failure comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal. Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. For every failure, there’s an alternative course of action. You just have to find it.

It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.
(Bill Gates)

Nothing can sabotage winning, except for fear of losing. Success usually lies just beyond failure. Success does not consist in never making failures, but in never making the same failure a second time. It is a mistake to suppose that successful people succeed through success; they much oftener succeed through failures. Precept, study, advice, and example could never have taught them so well as failure has done. The successful people will profit from their failures and try again in a different way till they succeed. Success is the result of preparation, hard work, persistence, and learning from failure.

I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.
(Thomas A. Edison)

Your attitude makes all the difference – whether you are a success or a failure, a winner or a loser, your attitude matters a lot. When it is obvious that your goals cannot be reached, you should not adjust your goals, you adjust your action steps. Successful people makes the difficulty to be overcome their first interest; success only comes later. To be successful, you should not be afraid of failure, because it’s how you deal with failure that determines how you achieve success. It’s not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life; it is how you handle what happens to you.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.
(Theodore Roosevelt)

One should never fear failure, because failure is instructive. So the next time you fail at something, say to yourself, “Okay, this didn’t work. What can I learn from this? What new approach can I make? If you learn something from a defeat it isn`t a loss. Turn your failure into profit! Because failure is an opportunity in disguise. Your greatest glory is not in never failing, but in succeeding after you fail. Failure is often that early morning hour of darkness that precedes the dawning of the day of success.

A failure is a man who has blundered, but is not able to cash in on the experience. (Elbert Hubbard)

Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.
(Bill Gates)

The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything.
(William Connor Magee)

I’ve always believed that every single negative can lead to a positive. I’m more comfortable with that kind of reality than walking around with my head in the clouds thinking I’ve got the Midas touch.
(Simon Cowell)
